2025 Lasok Lecture delivered by Ms Karen Vandekerckhove

Wednesday 26 March

The annual Lasok Lecture once again led to insightful discussions on a very topical and socially relevant issue: Gender equality.

Ms Karen Vandekerckhove, the Head of the Gender Equality Unity and Deputy Director Equality and Non-Discrimination within the European Commission's DG Justice and Consumers, illuminated the history of EU policies aiming to combat violence against women, fight gender stereotypes and to assure women a place to lead equally throughout society, e.g. through the adoption of a Directive on gender balance in corporate boards or Pay Transparency Directive.

While the pendulum on gender equality policies keeps on swinging, the Roadmap for women's rights adopted by the European Commission earlier this March sets a number of principles that will guide policymakers in assuring gender mainstreaming.
