Trusted Research and Export Controls
We support researchers to navigate and comply with legal frameworks and best practice described in the the UKs framework. This includes helping researchers make informed decisions about the potential risks of international collaboration, identifying potential security related issues, as well how to stay safe while working overseas.
We help ensure researchers comply with requirements, and to obtain export licences where relevant. UK export controls limit the movement of goods, technology, software and knowledge from the UK to manage the risks of these being misused, for instance by supporting terrorism, crime or proliferating Weapons of Mass Destruction.
We also support compliance with obligations under international agreements, such as the and (CITES). The Nagoya Protocol is an international agreement that ensures fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the use of genetic resources and traditional knowledge associated with those resources. CITES ensures the that international trade of certain species of plants and animals is sustainable. We help researchers navigate requirements, permits and agreements under these regulations.
